"Moyes has created a tight knit, passionate band of brothers punching above its weight."

Yep. The worrying thing is that it could get ripped apart if Rice and Bowen leave, Nobes retiring and big FACES like Cresswell and Ogbonna get older and retire.

I think we now have the oldest squad in the league now Burnley have gone, and we have the smallest.

Moyes has created a tight knit, passionate band of brothers punching above its weight.

The polar opposite of Man U, for example.

I’ll take that until the owners change thank you very much.

Trouble with the whole Moyes discussion is that no one can suggest the actual name of a manager that will come work for the current owners and under budget constraints we have as compared to the richer 3 - 6 clubs. And this manager you would have to be pretty certain he will improve us further. Someone like Conte would based on his track record but he committed the cardinal sin of going to Spurs. But would he have come to work for Sullivan at a club that has not won a thing in 42 years and has never been in the Champions league?

Moyes has limitations no doubt and has never won anything of note and will always frustrate some but I honestly believe there is no one better for us just now with our owners, budget and history which has been perennial struggle in the top division 80-90% of the time.

So for me ( just my opinion) the criticism of Moyes is fine but any suggestion he should be replaced or “binned” is academic without a viable, better alternative.

I would like him to see out 5 years and see where he takes us. That’s another 3 seasons. If we continue to maintain top 10!or ideally better finishes and good cup runs and no long relegation battles then it will be the best 5 years ever in our history as far as league performance goes. If he bags a cup or two he may become our best ever manager that’s how low the bar is :-)

Right now he is at a pivotal point having got us in and around the top 6 and everything now depends on the success or otherwise of the upcoming transfer window. Get it mostly right ( no manager gets every acquisition correct) and he will continue the upward trajectory. Get it wrong he will join the many false dawn / hope managers of the last 30 years and be consigned to the WHU manager graveyard.

But at this juncture he has done a fine job. Just not enduring another relegation struggle is progress :-)

I can't deny I feel a bit dirty getting enthused when we get one.

*That said, I'd still rather they put it in the mixer than play it short and float the resulting cross from a worse angle miles out of play

There aren't many better managers than Moyes?

In your opinion. There are at least half a dozen managers at clubs that finished below us that I think blow Moyes out the water.

But that's just my opinion. And you can delve into it and go into all the details but its just my opinion based on what I see.

Moyes has made as many mistakes this season as some of our players.

And I stand by my comment - A better manager with this squad wins a trophy and qualifies for Europa League. My opinion.

Please stop talking about a “promising season”

We all know next year we could very well be way off the pace with Newcastle splashing the Cash, Leicester with no European football, Brighton who finished the season strongly, Brentford apparently having our number.
Then there’s Villa and Everton who could well rebound and A revitalized Arsenal and Spurs.

Add to the mix the sheer number of players needed both starters and squad players, I’d say next season is gonna be even harder.

I’m with the opportunity missed crowd. We had a golden opportunity for glory this year and we shit it!

The manager and the players choked, from the lack of squad depth, head scratching use of Subs, over playing of players, (Soucek 54 games this year, Rice 50 and Antonio being out of gas midway through the season) idiotic red cards, own goals, missing sitters in front of goal, retarded penalties, conceding late goals, you name it we did it all. Even had a player kicking a cat and posting it on social media, cost him some game time…..

We need a lot of work and to win a trophy we are gonna need a lot of luck because even when given a golden opportunity for a bit of success we somehow find a way to fuck it up.

Personally I’d say next year is already looking ominous.

Whatever you do- don’t hold your breath, better chance of dying before we win anything.

Still at least we had 1975 and 1980.

" But from what I have seen I can make a confident call that a better manager would've done alot better."

mmm... well objectively, thats not true is it? Over 38 games he has beaten 13 other managers. And the 7 above him all spent tons more than him or have better squads.

Even of the teams below him, only Leiceter were challenging in Europe at the same time and they did terribly. With a far better squad than ours on paper.

Brigthon as good as Potter is, have not been playing Europe as well, neither have Wolves etc..

On an individual game basis, perhaps other managers would make better decisions. But on a 38+ (how many games in Europe?)... nah, there really aren't many "better" managers than Moyes. Not pound for pound. Not at all.

Takashi - I never mentioned anything about being a yo-yo club, that was you. I just stated a fact. It probably has more to do with us always having shit owners, but maybe the current ones aren’t as bad as what we’ve had in the past.

As for Moyes, overall he has done brilliantly. In order for us to actually win something or to have a chance of finishing in the top four, he will need to get the right people in and have a squad that you can actually rotate, and players that you can bring in off the bench and change the game. But we all know that.

i think our set piece ability has become a blessing and a curse. felt like a pattern for a while that we'd need a goal and be spinning our tyres in the mud, with us all screaming at moyes to change it up and get a grip on the game, only for him to stand frozen on the touchline until some heroic lump like dawson knocks one in off a fortuitously won corner and makes moysie seem like he always knew what he was doing.

i feel like the downside of being bailed out from any need to adapt to the match is finally catching up with us.

totally agree. as much as I've defended fornals, he was terrible yesterday and had to come off. arguably others too, yet moyes continued to procrastinate and do nothing. it took him fifteen minutes to get benrahma on in the euro semi. I like the man, but unless he gets out of these habits we'll go continue to come up short in crucial games

Totally agree. But from what I have seen I can make a confident call that a better manager would've done alot better.

All season Moyes use of the squad, selections, tactics, subs (or lack of) have directly and negatively influenced alot of results and been called into question. results of which, had he made the eight changes at the right times, we would've ended up with one or three points when we got zero. In fact, I would even go as far to say that us not qualifying sixth this season with Man Utd and Leicester so far off the pace is a joke.

He's done alot right though. He's galvanised the players, made us alot harder to beat, given us an identity back. Given us a semi final. I don't want people to think I'm all negative.

I just get a little pissed off with his calling the players into question when his own actions and performance are also questionable.

And unless the majority of our support start setting standards and calling it out then we may become the reason why we don't progress. Because there are too many West Ham fans happy to plod along with a smile on their face because we aren't in a relegation fight.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Team for Brighton - Preview - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
It’s fine to criticise Moyes over the last 2 transfer windows, and his inability to use the squad, but ultimately you have to judge him on results. He has got us into Europe two seasons in a row, and the semi finals of the Europa League. That is a great achievement.

As for our cunt owners, whether by luck or design, they have got things right at present. We have secured our tenth consecutive season in the top flight. This is something we haven’t achieved since the sixties and only once in our history. So maybe they aren’t as big cunts as all our previous owners.

Re: ⚽ Brighton v West Ham - Team for Brighton - Preview - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
I'd give Moyes one more season to see if he can take us any further which I fear he can't. I think we will be worse next season and could even be involved at the wrong end of the table.
He's a dinosaur. Our approach play is too hurried and hopeful which is why it doesn't work very often and we give the ball away so often. Most of our goals come from set pieces or long balls, and we rely heavily on the style of an old fashioned type of Centre Forward.

Yesterday we didn't create one fucking chance, same in Frankfurt.

The thing is you’d never know if another manager would achieve better with all the same circumstances. Its impossible to know but being sixth and seventh feels pretty good.

For those who think Man U are shit, they are fractionally less shit than us this season.
